A multi-channel interactive video installation (18minutes) exploring the possibilities and relationship between projection onto body and body onto projection, as the layers of traces of images are revealed with the movements of the viewers.

 

The video is a collection of basic movements in Butoh Dance which is a traditional Japanese dance that emerged after WWII. Japanese used to find self-identity through Butoh dance after WWII.

 

The set up of the installation is inspired by the relationship between positive and negative images in film. The projection is bright white, but once as the viewers entering the projection, they themselves are the ones who reveal the images. It is an video installation explores identity by inviting the audience to confront their own identities. 

 

Exhibited at Sullivan Gallery, School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
