The Last Habitant of Lop Nur

Through the lens of the daily routine in Abudton Balatdi’s family, the Last Habitant of Lop Nur depicts the transformation of the life style of the Lopians. The family transitions from fishing to herding and farming due to the impact of urbanization, which causes tremendous water-related environmental issues in the underdeveloped areas in China. The story of Abudton Balatdi’s family is a microcosm of a larger ethical minority group: the Lopian, in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China where the population islargely Muslim and Shamanism and geographically, it belongs to the Great Tarim Basin between the Tian Shan and Kunlun Mountains systems of Central Asia.
